While the concept of block caving as a mass mining process is not new, the benefits of cost and increased production makes it an attractive process. The method involves mining deep, large and low grade Ore bodies whereby a large section of rock is undercut, creating an artificial cave that fills with its own debris as it collapses. As a result, a pre-constructed series of funnels and access tunnels are developed, which enables miners to constantly extract from here. With the rise of mines accessing deeper and lower-grade ores, this method is becoming increasingly popular all around the world including Australia and Chile. To assist in increasing production rates related to block caving, high pressure pre-conditioning systems are required.
